We all know that books are a great way to help children learn about the world, to read, to calm down, to focus their minds (no scary stories please!) and bond with their parents and caregivers. It helps their imagination develop, their confidence and self-esteem grow as they learn about the world around them.
Bedtime Books for Babies
What about bedtime books for babies? But my baby is only a few months old you say, is there really much point? Absolutely! For them to be close to you, to have the close contact, to hear your voice and engage with the colours and images on the pages are all important parts of bonding and learning and believe me when I say, a baby is never too young for a bedtime story!
There’s the ‘bath book bed’ motto which is easy to remember and simple to do. Most adults like to wind down by reading before bed too (sometimes given half the chance!). I know I do. And there’s no doubt, adding a story or two to your little one’s bedtime rituals is a wonderful addition to their routine.
When your baby is in their first few months, books with black and white images are much easier for them to see. Also, be guided by your baby. If they don’t seem interested, as though they’ve had enough, that’s ok. It may only be for a few minutes while they get used to cuddling and listening and looking. Be patient and enjoy all these lovely times together!
